April 2020 Student Leader of the Month

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

On behalf of the Washburn Student Bar Association, it is long over due to congratulate the April 2020 recipient of the Student of the Month Award: Brian Kong

Each month during the school year, your WSBA collects nominations from the student body and then selects one of the nominated students to recognize as having done an exemplary job of going above and beyond the normal demands of law student life to make an impact on our school. Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, WSBA has been diligently trying to catch up to the ever changing times. While this has been long awaited, we are pleased to announce the April 2020 Student of the Month award going to Brian Kong.

Brian received the following two nominations from his peers:

"Brian Kong has been very active within Washburn Law during his time as a student. He has served as both the Vice President and the President of the Asian American Law Student Association (AALSA). He put together the Diversity and Inclusion Forum during his 2L year, a project that he envisions hosting once a semester. On top of all of that hard work, Brian is a dedicated student who works as a judicial clerk and in the transactional clinic. He is also a husband and father to Aiden, who occasionally attends class with him. I can’t think of anyone more representative of Washburn Law than Brian Kong and I give him my highest recommendation for student of the month."

"Brian is passionate about serving Washburn Law, he continuously goes above and beyond for his community. Brian is an active Washburn Law Student and contributes to the legal community inside and outside of Washburn Law. Brian has completed a judicial clerkship for a federal judge. He has also been on the board of the Asian American Law Student Association (AALSA) during his law school career. Brian was elected the Vice President and then President of AALSA where he orchestrated AALSA’s Semi-Annual Diversity Symposium. He brought together Washburn Law’s minority organizations and together raised awareness on the importance of diversity. Brian was also chosen to be on the Jessup International Moot Court team as well as selected as an intern in the Small Business and Transactional Law Clinic serving clients in our community. Brian is not only a hardworking student, he cares for his family and friends and is always looking for a way to help others. Brian is deserving of the Student of the Month Award for his commitment to being a model student to those around him."

Please join us in congratulating our April Student of the Month!
