April Student Leader of the Month

On behalf of the Washburn Student Bar Association, it is time to congratulate the April recipient of the Student Leader Award: Monet Straub. Each month, the WSBA Executive Council selects one student who has done an exemplary job of going above and beyond the normal demands of law student life to make an impact on our school. This student is recognized as our Student Leader of the Month. Behind the scenes Monet Straub has done an incredible amount of work for the benefit of the student body. Throughout her time at Washburn, Monet is a go-getter who is ready to step up and make a difference. Monet put a great amount of effort into the 2016 Barristers’ Ball as the Assistant Chair. She did not run for the position but stepped up to ensure that adequate progress was made. She shared her planning and organizational skills to help Sarah Morrison make the 2016 Barristers’ Ball one of the most successful events that has occurred during our time at the Washburn University School of Law. Together their leadership produced an awesome $10,000 donation to the Topeka Rescue Mission, an incredible feat that bolsters our law school’s reputation in the community. Monet has also played a critical role in building-up our school’s reputation within the law and government community. She has helped utilize her strong reputation and social network to bring in guest speakers that enrich our school’s government law programming and has played critical roles in the execution in many of our school’s most prominent events in the community, such as the Local Government Candidate Forum that occurred in October 2017 and the Kansas Governor Lunch and Learn from November 2016. Monet’s positive attitude and friendly demeanor will be missed as she continues her drive and passion for public service as a full-time staff member at the Kansas State Treasurer’s office. Her passion for public service and big heart will be a breath of fresh air as she works on behalf of the people of Kansas.
